I'm not focused so brilliantly on EXACT calorie counts, but simply knowing what portions equal what bad stuffs is enough for me to start making more educated decisions and substitutions. All in the interest of science then, I've been doing relatively good at staying around my 2100-a-day goal.
Day 1: 1665
Day 2: 2356
Day 3: 2270
Day 4: 2268
Day 5: 2239
Plus, if you knock out the Frappucinos on Day 4 and Day 5, I'd be right under my goal. I was so tired, though and they are so good. I just don't have any time for rest and relaxation. With a cumulative 6 hours and 10 minutes of Dance Dance Revolution, 500 ab crunches (NOTE: I apparently was not aware how out-of-shape I truly am, I could barely manage 10 real sit-ups the first day), and 141 1/2 push-ups, there's not much time for video games or writing or sitting on the stoop.
I've been getting a lot of support from people, and especially a whole lot of pop-culture advice, mostly from people who make no effort to be healthy. Fish here, chicken there, just don't eat fats (false!), cut out breads (no mention of which breads), rice is good (no mention of which rice is good), only get salads at fast-food (lies!). Someone even recommended the South-Beach Diet, and I wanted to give him the finger, but he was old (and I felt bad because his wife was being operated upon for an odd tumor).

And finally...
I have been having some excellent stools! Sure, they take some effort to exeunt, but this is because I have much less to pass, and it is awkward to reshape your insides. Oh god, and afterwards, it's like a dream. Seconds after I have a good poop, it is so clean downstairs, that I'm sure you could eat a banana directly from my star-shaped sphincter. Things are definitely looking up, down below.
Stay tuned for the week's end and all the stats, highs, lows...

I'm so excited to read that you have done so well with your first week! Congratulations!!
You continue to impress me with your approach to your 'lifestyle change.' You're being very reasonable and forgiving of yourself when you don't do something perfectly, because you are aware that the things you are doing are still much better than what you had been doing, and it will take some time to perfect this lifestyle. It's hard to 'brainwash' yourself, so to speak, when you are not in a isolated environment - you're constantly surrounded by distractions (unhealthy but tempting food, well-meaning but bad advice) that you have to tune out in order to accomplish your goals. But I know that as you strive to increase your physical strength (awesome job with the push-ups, BTW!), you are also working to increase your mental strength, and I'm sure that tuning out these distractions will become easier for you as the days pass.
However, now I must sadly make a correction to one of your statements. I wish it were true that I exercised every single day for over a year. While it is true that I started going to the gym regularly in January 2007, and for most of that year I went at least three days a week, my daily exercise streak only began in January 2008. 34 days is a lot less impressive than 369 days, I know, but you have to start somewhere, right? ;-)
Congrats again and best of luck with Week Two!
Oh - one more thing. Have you tried the Skinny Lattes at Starbucks? The Tall ones are only 90 calories. I love the Cinnamon Dolce Latte. I have become a big fan of lattes made with nonfat milk because in Weight Watchers world, they actually count as a dairy serving, so you can strengthen your bones as you get a caffeine buzz! :-) (But of course, I don't know how well those fit in with your plan, so if that is 'bad advice' for you, sorry!)
Anything with coffee is great for my diet! My health might suffer from the caffeine and acid, but I'll be grinning the entire time. Some days, like today, I just want to drown in coffee.
And don't worry, soon I'll be well on my way to total brainwashing.
And technically since it's the Chinese New Year today, you've been exercising an entire 38day year! Remember to celebrate by buying something red and blowing something up.
